Malpractices by fuel pumps to be checked

VIJAYAWADA : After observing that owners of petrol pumps are committing irregularities in measuring fuel, the Civil Supplies Department on Thursday decided to intensify raids on the outlets. Speaking to newsmen at the Interim Government Complex in Velagapudi, Civil Supplies Minister Prathipati Pulla Rao said that during the raids conducted on fuel filling stations in Nellore and Prakasam districts, the officials found lapses with regard to measurement of fuel. 


It was also found that some staff at the fuel filling stations were duping customers by filling less quantity of petrol and diesel than the actual measurement for which the customers had paid, the minister said and warned the petrol pumps of action against such malpractices.


He also announced to set up a toll free number for receiving complaints from people. 


He said that the government would distribute LPG stoves to 1.57 lakh ST families in the State under the Deepam scheme.


On the occasion of BR Ambedkar’s birth anniversary on Friday, CM N Chandrababu Naidu will formally launch the distribution of gas kits. Beneficiaries will get gas kits worth `2,400, including 5 kg gas cylinder, stove and regulator.
