VISAKHAPATNAM : The murder of rowdy-sheeter M Venkata Ramana has turned out to be a case of a friend turning foe over a property dispute. Ramana’s friend Suvvada Mahesh (31) and his aide Ummidi Vaasu (27) killed the rowdy-sheeter near a bar in Maddilapalem on April 7 night, the police said.

Ramana and Mahesh both have rowdy-sheets opened against them at the city police stations. Mahesh had taken a portion of Raman’s house in Pithapuram Colony on rent.

“Mahesh was not paying the rents and repeated appeals of Ramana yielded little. Further, Ramana, who wanted to sell the portion of the house, told Mahesh the vacate. With no response, he even threatened Mahesh of dire consequences,” said MVP police station CI M Mahesh.

On April 7 night, Mahesh, along with his aide Vaasu, stabbed Ramana with knife and fled the scene. Ramana died while being shifted to hospital, the CI said.

Acting on a tip-off, the city police nabbed Mahesh and Vaasu at the Old Steel Plant quarters near HB Colony area on Wednesday afternoon.

The accused were produced before the Fourth Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Court on Thursday which remanded them into judicial custody.
